Ta-da! I haven't actually seen it yet, but I figured I should get this up here ASAP. Enjoy!

Yesterday we had our flash mob at the Enjoy Center! It went very well, despite the fact that not many kids showed up from the schools we worked with. Props to the two students from the first school who came out yesterday to sing with us! Although they probably have no clue that we even have a blog. Well, it's the thought that counts.
BO, who films all our concerts, also filmed our performance yesterday, and is planning on uploading it to Youtube. I'll post the video here as well when that happens. See you all at the dress rehearsal! KM CM was feeling a bit under the weather today, but perked up by the end of the night. Also, we had the band with us tonight!
The Minis ran their entire show, plus "Wings To Fly", all with the band. They seem to especially love singing "I Won't Grow Up" and "You've Got A Friend In Me". The Littles ran through their entire show, too! Their overall favourite seems to be "I Wanna Be Like You", which they do completely on their own without CM showing them the actions or anything. They do it really well too! The Childrens Choir ran through their entire show with the band as well. They went a little over time, but at least they got the whole show done with acting scenes too! The Youth choir started with "Hands", then ran through all our show's songs in order. Then we went through a revised version of our opening acting scene. Unfortunately, there wasn't quite enough time to go through the flash mob choreography, but as long as the people who were at the Monday rehearsal remember what they're doing and do it confidently, we'll be fine. Saturday is the flash mob! All Littles and Childrens are more than welcome to come and do the sign language we taught last week. And of course, all the Youth should be there. KM Ta-da! The finished product for the Youth basketball routine. This will be shown in our concert.
(Also, I figured out how to post videos properly. Should come in handy after our flash mob, which will hopefully be filmed.) KM Whoa, a school tour just for Youth choir? What? When did we start doing that?
Just this year, actually. CM wanted to reach out to potential Youth singers, and since we already wanted to do a flash mob, she decided to combine the rehearsal process for that with school tour! So we went to two schools, and taught a group of students from each school the song "Lean On Me" with choreography and a short acting scene beforehand. At the second school, a photographer from the Gazette snapped a few pictures! I don't know when they'll show up in the paper, but I'd say you should check today's and see. CM plans to take a Wednesday evening to review it all, with anyone from our parent organization SASG who's interested participating as well. KM Well, here we go into the home stretch. Only two rehearsals left! Are you all ready?
The Minis ran through their show. They're doing really well! We think they'll steal the show, as per usual. They seemed a bit unhappy about not getting a puppet show this rehearsal, though. The Littles ran through their show too! They even did some of their songs without CM or a Youth helper in front of them, which was really cool. They also sang "Wings To Fly", then at the end they went to go colour program covers for the concert. The Childrens Choir ran through most of their show, but didn't quite manage to get to "Happiness". Still, they're coming along quite nicely, and did very well despite missing a few singers. The Youth came up with a set cast for the "improv" scene, and sang through a large portion of our alone songs. Near the end, we listened to "Lean On Me" to get a sense of what we're singing for our flash mob coming up later this month. See you next Thursday! KM While listening to "My Blanket And Me", I realized that the version we have on the website and on the CDs is not the one we are singing! We follow what's written in the music, not what's in the recording. For a recording that's closer to what we're actually singing, try these:

KM Second workshop of the term! (Though technically the first for most singers since the other one was just for Youth). Since CM had to cancel that one rehearsal because of the terrible weather, she decided to do an extra Saturday rehearsal with crafts!
The Minis were the first to arrive. They did three of their songs, including "Let's Call The Whole Thing Off", which is coming along nicely now. Then, they decorated two little kites each, one of which they took home, with the others going to be displayed in the theatre lobby during the concert. After finishing their kites, they went to rehearse the two songs that all the choirs sing together, "True Colours" and "Wings To Fly", with whichever singers from the other choirs that were there. Then, it was the Littles turn. They presented their entire show to the Childrens and Youth, then made flowers for their craft! Those will also be displayed for the concert. The Children's Choir worked on the songs and scenes that they didn't get to on Thursday, then presented the whole show to the Youth that were there. It's coming along really well. Afterwards, they made thought bubbles relating to their views on happiness. To my Linus and Snoopy for "My Blanket And Me": I'm going to make a video of the routine either today or tomorrow, so keep your eyes peeled on the SAYMA website and here. Finally, the Youth got to see the (almost!) finished product for our scenes--props to MH, the mom of one of our Little singers, for making the visuals and the audio come together in such a neat powerpoint. Then, we made our craft, decorating masks to show different emotions or personality traits. It took a long time, but they turned out really well. We only have two rehearsals left, you guys! Of course, we also have school tour, which is kind of like extra practice. KM We have three rehearsals to go! But stay calm, everyone. With enough practice we can do this!
Filming one-liners about bullying and friendship started this week. Minis and Littles are all done, and I think Childrens Choir is too, but I'm not sure about Youth. The Minis ran through their whole show, with Youth helper CK narrating. They're so close to being ready! They're still having some trouble with "Let's Call The Whole Thing Off", but it is pretty wordy for them. CM is considering shortening it. The Littles also ran through their show! Unfortunately, they were missing quite a few kids, but they still did very well. Hopefully everyone will be there next time! The Children's Choir ran through most of their show! "My Blanket And Me" was deemed to be their weakest piece so far, but they didn't get to "Glee Club Rehearsal", "Suppertime", or "Happiness", so we'll see how those songs are doing next time. There will be some time during the Saturday rehearsal to do a little work with scenes or songs that aren't as strong. The Youth filmed our basketball choreography, and sang our weaker songs. I don't think we were able to film everybody saying their one-liners because of the basketball filming, so we'll have to finish that off either tomorrow or next Thursday. Tomorrow we have a workshop/craft day! KM |
AuthorHi, I'm KM. I work with all the SAYMA choirs as the lead helper. I sang in the choirs for 12 years, and I just couldn't bring myself to leave, so I didn't! Oh, and I write this blog, but I'm guessing you figured that out already. Archives
