I don't know if you all knew this, but the six helper girls were nominated by a mother of two Littles for an event called "Beautiful Me" where participants would get makeovers, gift bags, and a photo shoot. All six of us got in, and KS, CK, RJ, TM, KL, and myself spent most of the day at this event. So, I'd like to thank the lovely woman who nominated us and the wonderful people running and working in the event on behalf of all the helper girls. If it's ok with the other five helpers, I might post some of the photos from that day (my Dad took a bunch). Well, see you all next rehearsal (and to the helper girls: we should all wear our shirts from the gift bags)!

We were at the United Church last rehearsal! Next rehearsal will be at the Shrine Hall, since the school is out of the question what with it being Spring Break and all.
The Minis ran through their entire show, and it looks like everything is on track for the performance May 4th. They also tested out CM's new "circle" idea (it's more of a square, actually) with big foam jigsaw-type pieces. It seemed to be a big hit, so we'll probably use it again next time. The Littles ran through their entire show as well. They are so close to having everything perfectly polished for the concert, and it's only March! The Childrens Choir did the same, but first rehearsed "The Mob Song" with the Grade 2s from Littles. You should see their gorgeous costumes (that my grandpa EM made)!!!! The Youth were missing quite a few members, but we still ran through as much of the show as we could. I am soooooo excited for our show! Enjoy your spring break, everyone! (And remember, we still have rehearsal this week!) KM Woo! We're into the double digits! Craaaaaaazy!
The Minis rehearsed some of their songs, then moved right on to their craft. They made little lambs out of construction paper and cotton balls! I have a sample somewhere in the Official Choir Laundry Basket of Carrying Important Things (or just the laundry basket I guess) and if I have the time I will take a picture of it and put it up here! The Littles' rehearsal was much the same, they practised a few songs, then worked on their craft. They made and decorated clam-shaped shakers out of paper plates and macaroni, which they will use at the concert during "Under The Sea". They also got smaller paper plates to decorate, then take home and make into shakers to keep. The Childrens Choir also did the same. Their first order of business was to rehearse a few songs, then they quickly moved on to their special craft. They decorated tote bags with their names and the word "Choir" on them. I must say, we have quite the artists in SACC! The bags that I saw looked fantastic! The Childrens Choir also made pom-poms for their choreography in "Gaston". In the meantime, the Youth choir was working on their craft: photo tote bags. They all got a bag, their headshot, a choir logo, and their pick of photos from recent concerts. After cutting the photos to fit in the 'frames' in the bag, some Youth decided to decorate the back, either with names of past concerts they participated in or the signatures of their fellow choir members. Some did both! After finishing our masterpieces, we rehearsed a few songs, then left with our bags. Next Thursday we are at the United Church (upstairs, not downstairs!). KM To make up for my absence (and for this short rehearsal log), I put some more pictures from the Alice in Wonderland concert in the slideshow on the home page!
There was a parent-teacher thing or something in the music room that we didn't know about, so all the choirs rehearsed in the library today. The Minis did really well in the new space (or so I'm told) and they're starting to really sing, which is great! Next week, they make sheep stick puppets. The Littles were a little more rambunctious* in the unfamiliar space, but still had a good rehearsal. Next week, they make ocean-themed musical instruments! The Grade 2s in SALS have been invited to join SACC on stage for "The Mob Song". The Childrens Choir started a run of their show in order and (what wonderful timing) ended right before "The Mob Song". They also discussed respect (as they've been more than a bit wild and crazy recently), and next week will decorate tote bags with the word respect. They will also rehearse "The Mob Song" with the Grade 2 Littles and make pom-poms to be cheerleaders in "Gaston". The Youth focused on only their music this week (no acting scenes!), and I am told they did wonderfully (of course!). CM said that they sang "Dream A Little Dream" especially well. Now for some bad news: AR from the Youth choir, who was to be our Bear, has dropped out. The good news? She did it because got a major role in her schools production of Grease! We wish her well and await her return in September. So, it appears we must recast the role! CM is contemplating... Right now we're trying to decide between double-casting someone or bringing in someone from SACC or SASG instead. Your thoughts? KM *The spell-check on Weebly says that "rambunctious" isn't spelled correctly (even though it is). Then again, it also says "Weebly" isn't spelled correctly... Spell-check is stupid and I wish I could get rid of it. I'm not sure if I'll be doing a Rehearsal Log for tonight's rehearsal, mainly because I won't be there. I came down with a really bad cold yesterday. I'll have to sit this one out so I can recuperate(and so I don't accidentally infect anyone at choir).
On another note, we'll be taking headshots of all the Youth choir this time! We need everyone's picture, so if you miss tonight's rehearsal, you can take one on your own or we'll just try to get your picture taken at the next rehearsal. Also for the Youth: Tonight is all about the music. No scene work! KM March has begun, and we're motoring along!
The Minis reviewed the songs they learned last week, and started on a new song. They also watched a puppet show and played a few games. The Littles finally met their Ursula, AN. She was out of costume the entire time we had CM interview her, and she remained so for her test performance of "Poor Unfortunate Souls". The singers seemed to like it, and some of the kids even sang along! I think getting used to Ursula is going to be a lot easier than getting used to the Grinch... The Childrens Choir rehearsed privately, with the minimum possible number of distractions. I was told that they had much better focus, and that they worked intensively on staging "Gaston". The Youth finished running through their mini-show, and started to learn the all-together finale song, "Ever Ever After". Those of you present at the last rehearsal know that there were some MAJOR discrepancies with the lyrics sheet and the CD, which was due to some miscommunication between CM and myself (but mostly it was my fault, since I'm the one who typed up the lyric sheet... sorry about that). Not to worry, we (by which I mean I) am going to redo the lyric sheet ASAP! We'll hand out a revised copy next rehearsal. Until then, try looking for the lyrics online or simply listen to the CD and try to pick up the lyrics that way. KM |
AuthorHi, I'm KM. I work with all the SAYMA choirs as the lead helper. I sang in the choirs for 12 years, and I just couldn't bring myself to leave, so I didn't! Oh, and I write this blog, but I'm guessing you figured that out already. Archives
