So some parts have to be shuffled, and CM and I are still working out how best to do that. The next rehearsal log WILL include a Youth cast list, since by then everything should be settled.

So, I will NOT be posting the cast list this week, partially because I'm crazy busy and partially because we have to make a change or two, since one of our Youth singers and helpers got a role in her school musical (hooray!) and has thus elected to drop out for the term in order to make it to those rehearsals (aww...) We'll miss her, but hopefully she'll be able to come back for the spring term--and of course, we can always go see her show!

Some amendments to the last post. We've cast the Youth show already, including the people who were missing last rehearsal (and we've made some changes in the form of adding a few characters), so we won't have to do any more audition-y things next rehearsal. I'm about to make a tentative cast list for CC, whose show CM has majorly reworked to suit them better.
After that, all I have to do is change a few things for the Littles show to better reflect their numbers and we'll be good to go! Youth singers, no matter how tempting it may be, don't ask me or CM who we've cast you as. You all have to wait until Thursday! We will NOT be spilling the beans early, no matter how many times you bug us for answers. KM Now that we've had our production meeting and helper barbecue AND we've had people start to register for the term, CM and I are developing a plan of attack. Well, not a literal one--you know what I mean. Thus, I've re-rewritten Polar Express to better fit our numbers there and am drawing up a rehearsal schedule for the Youth's acting scenes. CM, meanwhile, has come up with plans for what our helpers (there are quite a lot of them this year) will be doing each rehearsal. Yes, every rehearsal. CM is a crazy hard worker, if you didn't know that already.
Helpers, keep an eye on your email in the next few days for those plans from CM, and possibly a revised Polar Express from me. Depends how busy my job and the start of this university term keeps me over the next little while. Before I sign off, would anyone be particularly upset if I started referring to the helpers by first name instead of their initials? It's just that there are so many of you to keep track of now, and I know that there's at least two of us with the same initials... Please let me know what you think--especially the helpers, since this is about you guys. KM Me. I am. And not just because I've basically written half of the winter concert. Seriously, though, I've taken my old Polar Express script and rewritten it for CC, and I've mashed two existing short scripts together to create a mini-show for Youth. Plus, CM and I are working on expanding an existing short script for the Littles as well! It's exciting stuff, it really is. I don't mean to brag, I'm just really proud of my work and I hope you all will be pleased with it.
We've got a production meeting and a helper barbecue coming up this month to figure some things out for our winter term, and then rehearsals for Littles, CC, and Youth start the first Thursday in September! KM The first little bit didn't quite make it on, but you guys know that first move pretty well by now, I think. Weebly wouldn't let me upload a video that wasn't hosted on Youtube, so here is the file for you to download.
Before I start talking about last night's rehearsal, I'd like to bring something to the attention of the Youth choir. If this doesn't apply to you, you can skip right over it.
On Wednesday evening I sang the national anthem for a girl's hockey game at Servus Place. We have been sending representatives from SAYS to sing the anthem for these games since about mid-fall. I have to say, it was a lot of fun and a great confidence booster, and I'm sure the singers who've done it before will agree. There are still some opportunities left this hockey season to go sing the anthem, so if you're interested, send a note to our manager (you will find her email address on your weekly e-newsletter and on our website) and ask about the available dates. You can sing with a partner or in a small group as well. Okay, now back to business. The Littles practiced "Muziki Vuma", "I Just Can't Wait to be King", and "Siyahamba". They also started learning "Rhythm of the Rain" and "Circle of Life", and had a puppet show about singing well together. The Children's Choir sang through the songs they learned last time, and started with the flashlight choreography for "Firefly". The Youth choir sang through "Circle of Life", "We Are One", "Watu Wote", and "Kwaheri Angu Rafiki" with the finalized soloists/duets/small groups involved in those songs. Next week, I will be teaching the sign language for the verses of "We Are One" to all those that want to and think they would be able to learn it and do it for the concert. Minis start up soon! Then we can start making up the buddy lists for Youth, Littles, and Minis! KM I just wanted to say a quick thanks to all the Youth choir members that came out to sing a few songs at the Enjoy Centre yesterday evening. Great job on singing some of the Littles and Childrens music! I didnt know you knew those songs so well!
We start up again in January for our spring concert full of African music and folktales, with the first rehearsal being our "Bring A Friend" night. Have a great winter break! See you in the new year. KM I currently have in my possession a binder with the Youth show and a soprano 1 CD inside. If you are a soprano, and you grabbed a binder and CD on Thursday but don't have either right now, then don't worry, it's safe and sound and will be back in your arms this Thursday. CM will hold it up at the beginning of rehearsal to see whose it is, so be there on time to claim your binder.
And now for something completely different--new puppets! CM has two brand-new zoo animal puppets, and has brought four of my old puppet friends out of retirement to perform for the Minis and Littles. I will post an updated puppet list sometime next weekend, after some of the new ones have been introduced. KM Here is the second half of our old Snow Queen, as promised. Enjoy! |
AuthorHi, I'm KM. I work with all the SAYMA choirs as the lead helper. I sang in the choirs for 12 years, and I just couldn't bring myself to leave, so I didn't! Oh, and I write this blog, but I'm guessing you figured that out already. Archives
