Sorry for the lateness of this post, but at least I got it in on the Thursday! I'll post the rest of Snow Queen tomorrow.
At least, for those of you in Littles, Children's, and Youth.

This was a thing that happened. It was pretty fun. Almost as fun as our Youth choir party, which was another thing that happened that I forgot to mention on the blog until now.
So, CM got us all together--not just the Youth helpers, mind you!--and started by putting us all to work making binders for Littles and Childrens. Then, we all talked about plans for next year, and went over each show. Then we went and watched old concert videos for the rest of the night. On an entirely unrelated note, for those of you reading with singers who love Build-a-Bear, you should come by the store in WEM sometime. You might see a familiar face working there... (hint hint) KM I realize now that I should've started this earlier, so as to fit in all the Snow Queen videos, because there will only be 2 Thursdays until choir starts (yay!), but oh well, I'll just post two of them each week. Problem solved! So, without further ado, here are the first two parts of the Youth choir Snow Queen story from years past. Personally, I think we should put more of our stuff on Youtube. I vote we put up our Alice in Wonderland slideshow next! CM and I went to a production meeting for SAYMA today, so I think it's a good time to restart the blog by posting my report from said meeting.
We discussed props, set, and costuming for each choir, and we now have a solid plan for pretty much everything. The stories for each choir are: Minis--A Teddy Bear Christmas. This was my very first concert when I joined the Littles! It's about a family of bears who learn the true meaning of Christmas and discover that the best gift of all is being able to spend time together. We've done it twice before, both many years ago. I was the grandmother bear the first time, and the father bear the second. Littles--Holiday Zoobilee. Another one we've done before, though I think all the Littles from way back then have now left the choirs completely, so it'll seem new. This one is about a zookeeper who's lost his Christmas spirit, and the animals that help him find it again. Childrens--North Pole Exposure. Some of our Youth singers should remember doing this one when they were in Children's Choir! You know who you are. This is the story of a group of kids who take a trip to the North Pole to discover its secrets. Youth--Cinderella and the Snow Queen. No-one will remember doing this show, because it's all new, written specifically for us by a very talented, wise, kind, and especially modest young blogger/singer/helper (I'm talking about me). In this story, the Snow Queen throws a Christmas ball for her son, who hates Christmas, and Cinderella attends with the help of Santa and his elves, and teaches both the prince and the queen a lesson about what Christmas is really about. The Minis, Littles, and Children will also be performing songs in between the stories together. Are you excited for the term yet? Because you should be. I might start counting down the Thursdays until the first rehearsal with some old Snow Queen videos (which, by the way, will give you an idea of what the Snow Queen's costume will be for our next concert)!! KM Well, that was it. My last concert as an official member of SAYMA. And I must say, despite me being pretty sick, it went really well!
We opened with Youth's improv scene, which ended with a few words from the mayor! The Minis were absolutely adorable, as always. They really sang out on all their pieces! This always happens with them. They're quiet in dress rehearsal, then they get in front of an audience and just let loose. It's kind of funny, actually. The Childrens Choir was up next, and other than a few troubles with lines in acting scenes (thank you CM for helping out with that!) everything went off well. I really enjoyed being able to sing it all again, like I did in the last True Colours concert about six or seven years ago. After the Childrens Choir left the stage, it was time for my solo in "Hands". I confess, I was pretty worried I wouldn't have much of a voice to sing it! Fortunately, I was able to sing after all, and I don't think I sounded like I had a cold or anything, so that's good. NP, the other soloist in that song, did really well too! Then, we sang "Wings To Fly" with everyone, and took a break for intermission. After intermission, an RCMP officer came out briefly to talk about the RCMP's anti-bullying program. The Littles were up next! They were so great. The "copycats" just had a little trouble with their entrances and exits, but it wasn't that big of a deal in the end. They were all still super adorable and just great with their lines. Then it was the Youth's turn. We totally rocked "Born This Way", and the energy from that song really stayed with us. The audience was absolutely riveted to the powerpoint! Thank you BO for taking the pictures and recording the speaking, and thank you MH for putting it all together in such a neat way. All the soloists were amazing, by the way! I was just blown away by you all. After our show was done, the other choirs joined us onstage to sing "True Colours". Our soloists were fabulous, and so confident. I asked the soloist from the Littles if she was nervous, and she gave me a big "Nope!", which was really good to hear. Stage fright can be a terrible thing. This next part is for Youth choir's eyes only. Click the Read More button in the right-hand corner. Ta-da! I haven't actually seen it yet, but I figured I should get this up here ASAP. Enjoy!
KM Yesterday we had our flash mob at the Enjoy Center! It went very well, despite the fact that not many kids showed up from the schools we worked with. Props to the two students from the first school who came out yesterday to sing with us! Although they probably have no clue that we even have a blog. Well, it's the thought that counts.
BO, who films all our concerts, also filmed our performance yesterday, and is planning on uploading it to Youtube. I'll post the video here as well when that happens. See you all at the dress rehearsal! KM Ta-da! The finished product for the Youth basketball routine. This will be shown in our concert.
(Also, I figured out how to post videos properly. Should come in handy after our flash mob, which will hopefully be filmed.) KM While listening to "My Blanket And Me", I realized that the version we have on the website and on the CDs is not the one we are singing! We follow what's written in the music, not what's in the recording. For a recording that's closer to what we're actually singing, try these:

KM Second workshop of the term! (Though technically the first for most singers since the other one was just for Youth). Since CM had to cancel that one rehearsal because of the terrible weather, she decided to do an extra Saturday rehearsal with crafts!
The Minis were the first to arrive. They did three of their songs, including "Let's Call The Whole Thing Off", which is coming along nicely now. Then, they decorated two little kites each, one of which they took home, with the others going to be displayed in the theatre lobby during the concert. After finishing their kites, they went to rehearse the two songs that all the choirs sing together, "True Colours" and "Wings To Fly", with whichever singers from the other choirs that were there. Then, it was the Littles turn. They presented their entire show to the Childrens and Youth, then made flowers for their craft! Those will also be displayed for the concert. The Children's Choir worked on the songs and scenes that they didn't get to on Thursday, then presented the whole show to the Youth that were there. It's coming along really well. Afterwards, they made thought bubbles relating to their views on happiness. To my Linus and Snoopy for "My Blanket And Me": I'm going to make a video of the routine either today or tomorrow, so keep your eyes peeled on the SAYMA website and here. Finally, the Youth got to see the (almost!) finished product for our scenes--props to MH, the mom of one of our Little singers, for making the visuals and the audio come together in such a neat powerpoint. Then, we made our craft, decorating masks to show different emotions or personality traits. It took a long time, but they turned out really well. We only have two rehearsals left, you guys! Of course, we also have school tour, which is kind of like extra practice. KM |
AuthorHi, I'm KM. I work with all the SAYMA choirs as the lead helper. I sang in the choirs for 12 years, and I just couldn't bring myself to leave, so I didn't! Oh, and I write this blog, but I'm guessing you figured that out already. Archives
